Laws of Mini Soccer  















The OSA recommend the following rules for mini soccer

1.0 The Field
a - Dimensions
The field of play shall be rectangular with dimensions for each age group as per table. In all cases, the length shall always exceed the width.

b - Markings
All lines shall be distinctively marked not more than five (5) inches wide.

c - Goals.
As per table.

2.0 The Ball
Under 4 to under 8 - ball size 3
Under 9 to under 12 - ball size 4

3.0 Number of Players
a - Maximum number of players on the field at any one time (one of whom must be a goalkeeper) is seven (7).

note: for Under-6 and Under-8 Age Groups, it is recommended that the goalkeeper be rotated so that all Team Members take their turn in goal.

b - Maximum number of players on the Roster shall be as follows:
Under 6         Ten (10)
Under 8         Twelve (12)
Under 10       Fourteen (14)

c - Substitutions
Under 6 and Under 8     Injuries and Law VII
Under 10                      Prior to a throwin in you favour
                                   After any goal
                                   After any injury, when the Referee stops  play
                                   At half-time

d - In each age group, each player shall play a minimum 50% of the total playing time.

e - In each age group, all teams and games may be co-ed.

4.0 Players Equipment
Must conform to F.I.F.A. with the following exceptions:

a - Footwear: Tennis shoes or soft cleated soccer shoes.

Note: Shin guards are mandatory

5.0 Referees
May be any of the following:

a - Registered Referee
b - Parent
c - Coach or Assistant
d - Referees decisions on points of fact.
e - All rule infractions shall be briefly explained to the offending player

6.0 Linesmen
Not mandatory. Use club linesman if available

7.0 Duration Of Game
Under 6          - Four equal Ten minute quarters.
                     - Two minute break between quarters 1 & 2 and 3 & 4
                     - Five minute halftime break between quarters 2 & 3

 Under 8         - Four equal Twelve minute quarters
                     - Two minute breaks and five minute half-time between
                       quarters as per Under 6
 
Under 10        - Two equal halves of twenty five minutes each.
                     - Five (5) minute half-time break.
 
Note
It is recommended that Parents/Coaches substitute players between quarters to ensure that all players play a minimum of 50% of the game.

8.0 Start Of Play
Conform to FIFA with the exception that players awaiting kick-off stand at the distance of the centre circle for their specific age group.

9.0 Ball In & Out Of Play
Conform to FIFA

10.0 Method Of Scoring
Conform to FIFA

11.0 Offside
Under 9 and younger - no offside rule.
Under 10 and older    - conform to FIFAoffside

12.0 Fouls & Misconduct
Conform to F.I.F.A. with the following exceptions:

a - All fouls will result in an indirect Free Kick, with the opponents five yards away.
b - Markings: All Lines shall be distinctively marked not more than five inches wide.

13.0 Free Kicks
Conform to F.I.F.A. with the following exceptions.

a - Shall be classified under one heading - indirect.
b - A goal may not be scored until the ball has been played or touched by a second player of either team.
c - No kicks shall be taken by the attacking team within the defending teams goal area.

14.0 Penalty Kicks
Under 8 and younger           -  No Penalty Kicks
Under 10                            -  Penalty kicks shall be taken from 
                                            prescribed spot wth opponents eight
                                            yards before kick is taken.

15.0 Throw-In
Conform to F.I.F.A.

Teaching of correct method of taking throw is the responsibility of Parent/Coach.

16.0 Goal Kick
a - May be taken from any point inside the Goal Area on that side in which the ball went out of play.
b - Opponents must be eight yards away from the ball.

17.0 Corner Kicks
Opponents must be the following Distance from the ball prior to taking the kick.

Under 6          Five yards
Under 8          Six yards
Under 10        Eight yards
